Testing the MG

With the Monte coming up fast, we’ve been busy testing the MG.

Dan has covered approx 800 miles in 5 days traveling to Castleford, Sherburn in Elmet, Whitley Bridge, Northampton, Stainby near Grantham. It was a good test for the car as it has only been used locally over the past few years so it needed a good few days of consistent driving to find any faults prior to the rally.

During the MG’s travels, a few faults were found:

  • Brake linkage from pedal to master cylinder has excess wear. Therefore, the joint falls apart. This was repaired on the road side with lock wire to get the car back to the workshop.
  • Rear handbrake cable sticking slightly
  • Wiper motor stopped working (thankfully on a clear day!)
  • Rear brake has slight oil contamination
  • Sump rear seal leaking

We are working through all of the faults in the workshop now.

The seat back and base modifications have transformed the comfort of the car, and the VW steering box has made it much easier to drive once you’re used to it.

Finally we have also put in a new clutch which is excellent!

More to come.
